We-Ko-Pa Golf Club - Saguaro Course

We-Ko-Pa Golf Club Saguaro Golf Course

Saguaro, the newest of the two, was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. It is a desert golf experience unlike any other. Integrating design elements not commonly found in the desert, the course is built for walking and has more in common with older, more traditional courses where greens are close to tees and the course follows the natural movement of the land. To assist those choosing to walk, battery powered Speedcarts are available to transport your clubs.

Grayhawk Golf Club - Raptor Course

Grayhawk Golf Club Raptor Course

The Raptor Course, which opened in 1995, is very scenic and has unique views that could catch any golfers' eye, including the large lake that is adjacent to the clubhouse and hole #18, a 521-yard, par 5. Designed by Tom Fazio, the course offers a thrilling golf challenge that commands a player's respect through a daring, high-stakes game of risk and reward. Stretching 7,108-yards from the back tees the par-72 course meanders over the gentle hills and across the deep natural arroyos that are typical of the Sonoran Desert. The Raptor course is a gorgeous layout that affords spectacular mountain views and features tee shots that often demand short desert carries. You'll find rolling, jewel-green fairways, superb par-3s and lush landscaping. It also includes extensive mounding and massive bunkering, as well as shot-making pushed to the edge. It's not for beginners, and even seasoned players will struggle when elements push the Raptor's claws into the attack position. To score well on this course, it is important to avoid the greenside bunkers - which are contoured, deep and abundant. Traps often line the front of raised green complexes that are very putt-able - if you can reach without landing in the hazards.

Whirlwind Golf Club - Devil's Claw Course at Wild Horse Pass

Whirlwind Golf Club – Devil's Claw Course at Wild Horse Pass

The Gila River Native American Community has woven championship golf with its rich cultural heritage to create Whirlwind Golf Club. Located just off of Maricopa Road and I-10, Whirlwind Golf Club offers 36 holes of championship golf with the 7017-yard Devil's Claw course and the recently opened 7,218-yard Cattail. Gary Panks has designed both masterpieces to challenge players of all levels while maintaining a sense of fairness and playability.

The Devil’s Claw course reflects the plant palette indigenous to the Gila River - Mesquite, Saguaro, Palo Verde, and Cottonwood blend with native grasses to recreate the Gila River as it was when the waters still flowed on the reservation. It's design is dominated by gradual elevation changes, multi-tiered greens, and challenging bunker design. This course hosted the Gila River Buy.com Classic in years 2001 and 2002.

In architectural style and decor clearly influenced by the culture of the Gila River Native American Community, the original 8,500 square-foot clubhouse features the golf shop, locker rooms, and full-service restaurant. A 3,000 square foot clubhouse expansion was completed in January of 2004 and has added additional individual and group seating in the most unspoiled setting in the Phoenix area. The new Sivlik Grill is open daily for breakfast & lunch, and seasonally for dinner.

Private instructions and group lessons are available from instructors such as Richard Carter, PGA, M. Peggy Chapin, LPGA, Russ Onizuka, Dominick Conti.
